BATC Instructor Steve Sweeten has worked for over a year to restore an old 1977 Kenworth diesel truck. With the help and support of Francis Trucking and Milk Money Trucking, Steve has given his students a unique, hands-on experience that went above and beyond the typical diesel curriculum.Last week the truck was driven to Joplin, Missouri, where it was put into the Guilty By Association Truck Show (GBATS). The Bridgerland Applied Technology College Foundation (BATCF) met on Wednesday, September 21, 2016, to hear a report from the previous scholarship recipient and to select a new recipient for the fall semester. May 2016 scholarship recipient, Teresa Scheurich, was not able to attend the meeting on Wednesday so BATC Vice President over Student Services, James White, spoke in her behalf. At the conclusion of their quarterly meeting, the Board of Trustees of the Utah College of Applied Technology has selected Dr. David R. Woolstenhulme to serve as the first Commissioner of Technical Education. The selection of the Board must now be approved by Governor Gary R. Herbert with consent of the Utah State Senate. Throughout her life, Lettie Larsen has worked on a family farm where she has fixed engines, repaired broken pipes and changed the oil on the machinery. While working as a Certified Nursing Assistant, Cayle Herbaugh decided she wanted a steady job in a career that she would enjoy; one that would allow her to focus more on medical and health care. On July 13^, the BATC Machining Technology Program was awarded a $15,000 grant by The Gene Hass Foundation. Another BATC Fashion trip for the books! A group of 12 of us from the BATC Fashion Merchandising Program went to New York City this year and we conquered every end of the city from top to bottom! We took in all the usual sights of The Big Apple: the Rockefeller Center, Statue of Liberty Cruise, 911 Memorial, Museum, Central Park, Brooklyn Bridge, Time Square and much more.
We enjoyed a special visit to Mood Designer Fabrics, (which was filled with thousands of bolts of fabric, trim, buttons, leather, beads etc. that you could only dream of); we made custom floral crowns with M & S Schmalberg at their 4th generation headquarters factory in the renowned garment district; and we enjoyed a one-on-one visit with fashion favorite Linda Pagen in her...

Royal Hafen has always had a passion for aerodynamics. Finding him wrapped up in the study of airplane wings or sailboat hulls was always common. It is no surprise that he has chosen a career path in composites.

After earning a degree in drafting, Royal jumped on the chance to further his education by attending the Advanced Composite & Fabrication evening courses at BATC. Almost immediately, a whole new world opened up to him! Congratulations to all of our graduates who were honored Thursday, June 16, at BATC's semi-annual graduation ceremonies! The room was filled with family, friends, faculty, and smiling supporters of the many students who have obtained their certificates in the past six months.

Pets. They're our best friends, our greatest supporters, our faithful confidants. We feed them, play with them and show them off. Overall, animals are easy to please but, are we really doing the things that genuinely keep them happy?

May is National Pet Month so we thought we'd shed some light on our Pre-Vet Tech/Veterinarian Assistant department. According to BATC Animal Science Instructor, Susan Curtis, pet needs are basically straight across the board. Whether we have dogs, cats, snakes, birds or bunnies, here are five simple tips she gives on how to keep our pets happy.

Florals, Boho and denim were all the center of attention during the BATC Spring Fashion Show in March.  Models strolled down the catwalk in front of sold out crowds while pictures from actual runways and local retailers were projected onto the four giant screens behind them, portraying spring’s hottest trends. This show, nine BATC Fashion Merchandising students teamed up with local retailers and vendors from throughout Cache Valley to showcase styles and looks that they felt were important to promote and highlight.

Students from the Logan and Brigham City BATC campuses attended the annual event where they met, mingled, and learned from three very successful, motivating businesspeople from the community.

Sparks were literally flying Thursday morning as students from across the Wasatch corridor gathered at BATC's annual Welding Technology Skills Contest. 

A total of eighty-four participants competed in the three-part contest which consisted of a written test, a 3G Certification Plate (SMAW) and a welding configuration from a GMAW blueprint. Judges Jeff Baldwin from Progressive Construction and Doug Johnson from Praxair rated individual participants based on knowledge, precision, and skills. When fashion student, Emilee Roberts, was given the opportunity to work for successful designer out of Connecticut, she immediately knew it was a chance of a lifetime.

In 2015, Rhone Apparel, a strong yet classic men's activewear line, hired Emilee to run their bookkeeping and finances. Since then, she has been processing their accounts receivable, tracking their inventory and reconciling bank accounts for the company as they distribute their lines to Bloomingdales and Nordstroms among other stores across the nation. Plus, she does it all from the comfort of her own home.

The purpose of Interior Design is to push the limits of design and predictability in order to bring personality into an otherwise blank structure and recently the BATC Interior Design Program has done just that. 

Students from the program have spent the last several months learning how to tap even deeper into their "inner creative junkies" as they’ve remodeled the entire Interior Design department with repurposed materials. Nearly every material was either used and donated or purchased second-hand in an effort to teach the students what it's really like to work within a client's budget, which the student's discovered quickly was fun but hard work.

Congratulations to Team VanGuard, a cybersecurity competition team from BATC! Having recently competed against other teams throughout the state of Utah, they took first place at CyberPatriot VIII – the National Youth Cyber Defense Competition.

He enrolled in the Automated Manufacturing & Robotics course on January 5, 2015 and was hired by Set Point Engineering Systems in Ogden, one of the world's premier providers of custom automation on January 4, 2016.
