Business Technology - Accounting

This certificate prepares students to perform a combination of routine calculating, posting, and verifying duties to obtain primary financial data for use in maintaining accounting records. Accounting technicians may be responsible for preparing payroll records, accounts receivable/payable documents, tax forms, budgets, financial forecasts, and financial statements. Students will learn generally accepted accounting principles applied in computerized accounting. Students will also learn to perform word processing, spreadsheet, and database applications; communicate effectively; and organize and maintain records. Job opportunities include accounting/bookkeeping technician, accounts receivable technician, accounts payable technician, payroll technician, voucher examiner, and ledger clerk.

Please note: A composite ACT score of 17 or a composite SAT score of 1210 can waive assessment requirements (except keyboarding) if taken no more than four years prior to enrollment. Individuals must have a high school diploma or GED prior to admission.

Outcome statistics are compiled annually based upon Training Outcome surveys conducted with students post-graduation. Data is gathered through coordination with the student, faculty, Student Services Office personnel, and licensing agencies.

The Business Technology program at Bridgerland Applied Technology College has an outstanding reputation with local businesses, and student placement has been very successful. Employment projections by the Department of Workforce Services indicate business and office careers are among the top 50 career areas that will experience the largest percentage of growth in the next five years.
