This program is taught by certified instructors and includes classroom and behind-the-wheel training. Tuition is inclusive and includes, but is not limited to, Department of Transportation (DOT) physical, temporary commercial driver license (CDL) learner permit, CDL, truck usage, and fuel. The process for obtaining a CDL is primarily established by the Utah Department of Motor Vehicles, Driver License Division. Professional Truck Driving students receive approximately two weeks of classroom and lab training to prepare them for the test to obtain a temporary student driver permit. This test is administered by the Driver License Division at their Brigham City location. Upon successfully passing the test and obtaining a Department of Transportation (DOT) physical, a "learner permit" is issued by the Driver License Division and students are then eligible to participate in "over-the-road" training.

The next portion of training consists of a minimum of 135 hours in the classroom, 60 hours in the lab, and 45 hours of behind the wheel training. Upon successful completion of the training program, students must pass an over-the-road driving test to obtain a license. The driving test may be taken with any "third-party tester." For the convenience of the students, Bridgerland Applied Technology College has a "third-party tester" on staff.

Upon successfully passing this driving test, students may obtain a complete CDL from the state of Utah Driver License Division.

Train with State-of-the-Art Equipment! Students can get their first taste of the open road before ever leaving the classroom. The TransSim VS Training Simulator was paid for with a $99,900 USDA Rural Business Enterprise Development Grant, and comes fully loaded with three large simulation screens and everything from both standard and automatic transmission to adjustable seat and mirrors.

The simulator comes with tools to improve both the quality and safety training of the CDL Certification Program. The program also features a number of simulated driving situations that spontaneously challenge the students with conditions like fog, slick roads, blown tires, and sudden lane changes, all designed to teach students to react well when such scenarios suddenly occur in real life.

Even though the simulator is a much safer way to train and prepare students, the College also requires extensive practice in the parking lot "driving range" before getting out on the road.
