Description

This program prepares students for entry-level positions as machine technicians and machine tool operators. Learn to operate a variety of computer and mechanically controlled machine tools to produce precision parts, instruments, and tools. The self-paced, hands-on training allows for maximum efficiency for completion. Topics include blueprint reading, lathe and mill operations, programming, CNC operations, and more. In addition, students will learn the highly sought after skills in computer-aided manufacturing (CAM), software used to control, manipulate, and manage precision tool production.

Employment Outlook

The survey of U.S. manufacturing employers found that 80 percent of respondents said they had a serious problem finding qualified candidates for the highly technical world of modern manufacturing. According to the Department of Workforce Services, machining has been selected as one of Utah’s five-star occupations. Business growth, as well as retiring workers, will provide the majority of new job openings. Workers with a range of skills who can perform multiple tasks in a machine shop will have the best job opportunities.
