RCA Program

Firefighters are highly skilled, adventurous, and heroic. This hands-on program prepares students to obtain employment in one of the most rewarding fields out there. Certified and highly trained instructors provide instruction that goes far beyond the textbook. This program utilizes a state-of-the-art Fire Training Center, providing real world experiences that prove to be the highlight of the program!

Estimated Tuition & Fees:

$2,878 not including math, English, EMT, and online Intro. to Fire. This amount does include most books and supplies. Expenses are not incurred at one time - this is an estimate. Course fees may vary.

Duration:

28 weeks of instruction (about 12 months in total length)

Estimated Monthly Payment:

Half down upfront with the remaining balance divided into 4 monthly payments of $360 which covers tuition and fees only

Estimated Books and Supplies:

Most books and supplies will be supplied and are covered in the tuition and fees. Students will need to provide uniforms, steel-toed boots, and a belt. Specifics about these items will be provided.

Availability:

High School Students: Can take the Introduction to Fire & Rescue Services. Adult Students: Applications Due: July 10, and classes begin the end of July, Tu W Th: 4-10 pm, Sat: 8-5 pm

Special Requirements:

Clinical courses may require travel.
Students must:

  • Be 18 years of age at the time of certification
  • Be in good physical condition
  • Not have serious medical or psychological problems that would limit the ability to perform strenuous and stressful job duties
  • Have good work ethics
The physical strength and endurance demands associated with training and on-the-job use of current firefighting equipment for essential firefighting operations include lifting, carrying, and pulling of objects; climbing; crawling; running; and hoisting. Physical agility requires upper body strength, aerobic conditioning, and flexibility. Students will be exposed to dark rooms, confined spaces, and extreme heat and cold. An application for this program is required. See link above for details. Assessment: An assessment is required for students who have not met the math and English requirements. Outcome statistics are compiled annually based upon Training Outcome surveys conducted with students post-graduation. Data is gathered through coordination with the student, faculty, Student Services Office personnel, and licensing agencies.

Employment Outlook

Every year, fires and other emergencies take thousands of lives and destroy property worth billions of dollars. Although firefighting is highly competitive, the program at BATC has proudly placed 99 percent of our graduates. In addition to putting out fires, climbing ladders, and carrying hoses, firefighters typically treat victims and perform other vital life-saving or civil service functions while working in teams. This field offers many opportunities for advancement, including fire inspector, investigator, hazardous materials or rescue specialists, captain, etc. Due to the nature of the work, this is a career that will always need skilled and qualified workers.
