Health Sciences - Medical Coding

The Medical Coding specialization provides training in diagnostic and procedural coding along with health insurance and billing procedures. Medical Coding prepares the student with an understanding of medical anatomy and terminology, human diseases, and surgical procedures. Learn the newest regulations concerning patient confidentiality, privacy, and HIPAA regulations.

After successful completion, students are eligible to sit for the Certified Coding Associate (CCA) exam, which is a national exam from the American Health Information Management Association designed to certify entry-level medical coders.

Adult Students: Tu, Th: 5 pm - 9 pm
During the first 15 weeks students are required to take Wednesday evening support courses from 5 p.m. to 9 p.m.

Special Requirements:

Individuals must complete Medical Terminology prior to enrollment. Please see the current class schedule available online or at Student Services for dates and times.

According to the Bureau of Labor Statistics, this field has grown tremendously as medical practices have to deal with more insurance rules and complications. It is one of the fastest growing opportunities in health care.
