On behalf of our department and our students, we thank those of you who participated in our recruiting event last Friday.  We felt fantastic about what was accomplished, it was well attended, and we're definitely going to do it again next year.  Students across the board seemed very excited about the future career trajectories that were presented. This recruiting event was very different than others you may have attended in the past.  Many of you expressed surprise at how many already had most of the skills on your list.

HJ News Interview with Dr. David R. Woolstenhulme

Recently, the Herald Journal sat down with the UCAT Commissioner  Dr. David R. Woolstenhulme to discuss the many wonderful programs that techincal colleges can offer students. He states, "One of the things that’s even more exciting than that is stackable credentials. What that means is taking a certificate at a (Utah System of Higher Education) institution or a technical college, moving that certificate into an associate’s or an applied science degree and then into a bachelor’s degree."

Fall Fashion Show 2016: One-Way Ticket to Fashion

BATC Fashion Merchandising students present their annual Fall Fashion Show. “One-Way Ticket to Fashion” will be the theme for the fashion show. The show will be held on November 10th and 11th, 7:30 p.m. at Bridgerland Applied Technology College, 1301 North 600 West. Tickets for the show are $5 and will be available at the door. Refreshments will be served.

Local High School Students Are First to Graduate from A.M. Robotics STEM Academy

The first students ever to graduate from the Automated Manufacturing A.M. Robotics STEM Academy at Bridgerland Applied Technology College began their journey in high school. Adam Allred, Bryce Petersen, Rudy Barker, Nathan Merrill, John Robinson and Andrew Raymond attended the early morning Science, Technology, Engineering and Math (STEM) broadcast throughout their senior years, allowing them to complete their entire certificate within five months of graduation from high school, opening up a pathway toward their associate degree at Utah State University.

Culinary Arts Goes to Vegas!

BATC student MaKell Moore has a dream of owning her own bread and pastries bakery. She, along with six other students from the Culinary Arts Department, got a taste of what it takes to run a successful retail bakery as they consumed the competitive baking trends and cutting edge technology at the International Baking Industry Exposition (IBIE) in Las Vegas. The four-day expo was comprised of over 1,000 different companies from all over the globe. Diesel Students Help Restore Truck for a Good Cause

BATC Instructor Steve Sweeten has worked for over a year to restore an old 1977 Kenworth diesel truck. With the help and support of Francis Trucking and Milk Money Trucking, Steve has given his students a unique, hands-on experience that went above and beyond the typical diesel curriculum.Last week the truck was driven to Joplin, Missouri, where it was put into the Guilty By Association Truck Show (GBATS). Steve’s truck was one of 518 big rigs that gathered from around the U.S. to be a part of the show. The Bridgerland Applied Technology College Foundation (BATCF) met on Wednesday, September 21, 2016, to hear a report from the previous scholarship recipient and to select a new recipient for the fall semester. May 2016 scholarship recipient, Teresa Scheurich, was not able to attend the meeting on Wednesday so BATC Vice President over Student Services, James White, spoke in her behalf. Dr. David R. Woolstenhulme Selected as UCAT Commissioner

At the conclusion of their quarterly meeting, the Board of Trustees of the Utah College of Applied Technology has selected Dr. David R. Woolstenhulme to serve as the first Commissioner of Technical Education. The selection of the Board must now be approved by Governor Gary R. Herbert with consent of the Utah State Senate. Dr. Woolstenhulme is the Executive Vice Provost at Utah State University, a post he has held since 2014. A former President of the Uintah Basin Applied Technology, Dr. Woolstenhulme also served...

Grants Awarded to Machining Technology and Auto Collision

On July 13the BATC Machining Technology Program was awarded a $15,000 grant by The Gene Hass Foundation. This foundation was established by Gene Haas, owner of Hass Automation, Inc., to provide scholarship funds to post-secondary programs that teach CNC Machine Technology, Adult CNC training or Engineering while incorporating CNC training in the curriculum. BATC will use this grant to provide scholarship funds...

BATC Fashion Program Visits NYC

Another BATC Fashion trip for the books! A group of 12 of us from the BATC Fashion Merchandising Program went to New York City this year and we conquered every end of the city from top to bottom! We took in all the usual sights of The Big Apple: the Rockefeller Center, Statue of Liberty Cruise, 911 Memorial, Museum, Central Park, Brooklyn Bridge, Time Square and much more.
We enjoyed a special visit to Mood Designer Fabrics, (which was filled with thousands of bolts of fabric, trim, buttons, leather, beads etc. that you could only dream of); we made custom floral crowns with M & S Schmalberg at their 4th generation headquarters factory in the renowned garment district; and we enjoyed a one-on-one visit with fashion favorite Linda Pagen in her...

Why Composites?

Royal Hafen has always had a passion for aerodynamics. Finding him wrapped up in the study of airplane wings or sailboat hulls was always common. It is no surprise that he has chosen a career path in composites.

After earning a degree in drafting, Royal jumped on the chance to further his education by attending the Advanced Composite & Fabrication evening courses at BATC. Almost immediately, a whole new world opened up to him! Congratulations to all of our graduates who were honored Thursday, June 16, at BATC's semi-annual graduation ceremonies! The room was filled with family, friends, faculty, and smiling supporters of the many students who have obtained their certificates in the past six months.

Pets. They're our best friends, our greatest supporters, our faithful confidants. We feed them, play with them and show them off. Overall, animals are easy to please but, are we really doing the things that genuinely keep them happy?

Booths and stations were filled with activities that gave the students a glimpse into dozens of different occupations available to them if they choose to begin their education and training through BATC. Thanks to all the sponsors and participants that helped to create this successful event!

Flashback Friday: BATC Spring Fashion Show 2016

Florals, Boho and denim were all the center of attention during the BATC Spring Fashion Show in March.  Models strolled down the catwalk in front of sold out crowds while pictures from actual runways and local retailers were projected onto the four giant screens behind them, portraying spring’s hottest trends. This show, nine BATC Fashion Merchandising students teamed up with local retailers and vendors from throughout Cache Valley to showcase styles and looks that they felt were important to promote and highlight.

Nearly seventy students and faculty members gathered Tuesday morning for another successful BATC Business Administrative Conference. Students from the Logan and Brigham City BATC campuses attended the annual event where they met, mingled, and learned from three very successful, motivating businesspeople from the community.

Welding Technology Skills Contest 2016

Sparks were literally flying Thursday morning as students from across the Wasatch corridor gathered at BATC's annual Welding Technology Skills Contest. 

A total of eighty-four participants competed in the three-part contest which consisted of a written test, a 3G Certification Plate (SMAW) and a welding configuration from a GMAW blueprint. Judges Jeff Baldwin from Progressive Construction and Doug Johnson from Praxair rated individual participants based on knowledge, precision, and skills.
