PRESS RELEASE: Bridgerland Applied Technology College for Excellence Awarded for Manufacturing Education

School is one of three institutions to receive the 2016 Tooling U-SME Platinum Education Center (TUPEC) Award

(CLEVELAND, Oct. 7, 2016) — In recognition of Manufacturing Day, Tooling U-SME, a leading provider of manufacturing training solutions, is recognizing Bridgerland Applied Technology College (BATC) as one of its 2016 Tooling U-SME Platinum Education Center (TUPEC) Award recipients. BATC is one of three institutions receiving the award, which is presented to schools considered to be outstanding academic models for the advancement of the manufacturing industry.

“We want ambitious young people to know that they can have fulfilling careers in the manufacturing sector and when they enter the workforce they are making a significant contribution to the economy,” said Jerold Knight, Machine Technology Department Head at BATC. “Our team works hard to promote and educate the public about the abundance of job opportunities in manufacturing, and we’re grateful to be recognized for our efforts.”

Since 2012, Tooling U-SME has recognized exceptional community colleges and career technical schools that embrace flexibility, high-quality content and efficiencies in teaching skills students need to become valuable members of the manufacturing workforce. When students complete their programs and graduate from these schools, they are well prepared to succeed in the advanced manufacturing industry.

2016 TUPEC award recipients:

·         Bridgerland Applied Technology College, Logan, Utah
·         Robert. C. Byrd Institute, Huntington, West Virginia
·         Harper College, Palatine, Illinois

Tooling U-SME selected BATC for providing students with flexible, self-paced training solutions to build their skills-set, so they can enter the workforce immediately, even as they complete their training in the BATC manufacturing program.

“BATC students are gaining relevant training that will help them remain competitive wherever they go to work,” said Matt Fuller, Industrial Robotics, Microcontrollers and Composites instructor at BATC. “Our programs allow students to work while they acquire manufacturing education that gives them 21st-century skills and knowledge.”

BATC’s Machine Technology and Automated Manufacturing & Robotics programs provide students with real-world training, arming them with the essential skills needed to land manufacturing jobs in their community. The success of BATC’s manufacturing programs is due to the flexibility of classes with customized curriculum, which allows students to gain training at a pace best suited for their learning level. Additionally, as students take classes, BATC helps them find employment with local manufacturers – often two to three months after they enter the program.

“Bridgerland Applied Technology College is an exceptional postsecondary school that provides Utah students with great manufacturing programs,” said Jeannine Kunz, vice president, Tooling U-SME. “The recipients of this year’s TUPEC Award have made significant contributions to manufacturing education over the past year, and we are proud to honor their efforts.”

With the skills gap expected to result in 2 million unfilled manufacturing jobs by 2021, it’s imperative that the industry has access to workers with the right skills to grow and succeed. Many community colleges and technical schools offer high-quality learning and development programs that produce well-trained manufacturing talent. Manufacturers that hire students from these institutions can be rest assured they have access to some of the best talent in the country.
