The purpose of Interior Design is to push the limits of design and predictability in order to bring personality into an otherwise blank structure and recently the BATC Interior Design Program has done just that.
Students from the program have spent the last several months learning how to tap even deeper into their "inner creative junkies" as they’ve remodeled the entire Interior Design department with repurposed materials. Nearly every material was either used and donated or purchased second-hand in an effort to teach the students what it's really like to work within a client's budget, which the student's discovered quickly was fun but hard work.

Tools and wires and power equipment lined the tables where students repaired and adjusted their creations;

Donations from around the community allowed students and faculty to fill 180 stockings with candy, gift cards, stuffed animals, cookies, crackers and personal hygiene items so we could send them to troops overseas in USO Korea. After all of the stockings were filled, our students were taught how to tie quilts with the help of our friends at the Cache County Senior Citizens Center and, at the end of the two-hour activity, two queen-sized quilts along with two baby quilts were finished so they could be donated to local families in need.

Crest, Sky View, and Rich high schools for the first year of curriculum in the BATC STEM Academy program. The teachers had the opportunity to become familiar with all of the labs for the first-year instruction that will be taught through the UEN broadcast system. Thanks to a grant by the STEM Action Center last year, students at each high school and three BATC locations will be able to attend at 7:00 a.m. every day and work on completing a 900-hour STEM certificate. Once completed, students will have several pathways to choose from, including 30 credits applying toward the AAS Associates degree at USU, participating in internship opportunities that can lead directly to immediate employment in industry, and more advanced BATC certificates that translate into higher wage opportunities. Although the STEM Academy is not a direct pathway to an engineering degree, it is great preparation!

Every year this trip provides a great opportunity for students who are interested in pursuing fashion further, to visit the fashion capital of the United States and all it has to offer in areas of education, history, architecture and even entertainment. This year was no different. Students covered the city from top to bottom, literally walking the soles of their shoes off, on the streets of the city to become familiar with the subway system, between each stop on the itinerary.
Not only did the students take in general “tourist” sights of the city such as Time Square, Rockefeller Center, 5th Avenue, Statue of Liberty, Central Park, Brooklyn Bridge, etc., but they also were able to participate in some very special fashion oriented stops along the way.
