Bridgerland Applied Technology College RCA is one of two locations in the state that offers firefighter training in this format. It's a pathway that not only prepares someone who wants to be a career firefighter, but takes them way beyond what is required to obtain firefighter certification.
Captain Bryan Davies, Fire & Rescue Program Director stated, “Each year, BATC offers the RCA class, and now has just completed class #7. This was unique in that everyone made it to graduation, which has never happened before.”
The class motto is "We succeed as a team or we fail as a team." Besides finishing the RCA class these students must acquire other classes that will help them be successful in their career.
“Our RCA program is very competitive and one of the best in the state. This is the place that our recruits find their limits tested,” Captain Hoss Tomkinson, RCA Program Coordinator stated. “The RCA program is what brings out the respect for the business and an understanding of what it takes to become a trained firefighter.”
Recruits must also complete Introduction to Fire Protection, college Math & English, and EMT-Basic certification. Firefighting job growth is on the rise with a 7 percent projected increase by 2022. With the competitiveness that the job entails, we want to give those that wish to enter into this profession a competitive edge to be at the top of their game.
Congratulations graduates!
