On January 21, BATC student, Tracy Allen, competed in the Utah College of Applied Technology's Student of the Year where she was selected as one of the top three finalists. After weeks of formal preparation, Tracy, along with seven other contestants from throughout the state, arrived at the two-day competition where they appeared before a five-panel judge and underwent a series of interviews, essay writings, and gave a five-minute presentation focused on how applied technology has impacted their lives.
The competition wrapped up with a formal gala held in their honor at The Little America Hotel in Salt Lake City. Emmy award-winning reporter, Nadine Wimmer, graced the stage as emcee for the evening while she invited the finalists to give their speeches before an elite audience consisting of the UCAT Board of Trustees, Campus Administrators from state-wide ATCs, and State Legislators along with the families and friends of each of the eight contestants. Keynote speaker, Governor Gary Herbert, emphasized the benefit of ATC programs and how they have directly affected employment in the state of Utah.
Tracy represented BATC well as she effectively delivered her testimonial about the importance of improving her life through the applied technology program. To be placed in the top three is a real honor. We are proud of Tracy and are excited to see where her education will take her.
