Tooele surgery center is seeking a Pre-Op Nurse to act as patient advocate, providing continuity of care designed to meet individual patient needs through collaboration with other members of the health care team at the Center. The Pre-op nurse will ensure quality care to the individual patients pre-operatively including, but not limited to geriatric, adult, pediatric and adolescent patients. Duties include: • Readies the pre-op area to receive patients. • Assists in contacting all patients the day prior to surgery, reviews health history and procedure to be performed and provides all required preoperative instructions applicable to the procedure being performed. • Assesses physical and emotional needs of patients and confirms information such as allergies, medications, use of dentures, contacts, glasses, hearing aids, or prosthesis, pertinent medical conditions and past medical history. • Assesses the patient’s pre-op vital signs, weight , blood glucose level (if applicable), pregnancy test (if applicable), and starts IV on all patients, except those who have an order not to start an IV, using anesthesia protocol regarding IV fluids and catheter size. • Performs pre-operative instruction and describes the perioperative experience to the patient and the participation of the significant other, including what to expect before, during and after the procedure. • Ensures that patients are seen by the anesthesiologist and physician prior to being taken to the OR. Assures that paperwork is current and signed on the date of the procedure. • Prepares and restocks the Pre-Operative area for the following day. • Coordinates the flow of the daily procedures, with the OR nurse. • Keeps patient family apprised of any delays in the schedule. • Attends and participates in staff meetings and staff development programs. • Assists in PACU as available and needed. Job Requirements: Candidates have current licensure as Registered Nurse in the State of Utah and current CPR and ACLS certification. Must be able to stand and/or walk at least five hours per day, to lift and/or carry over 25 pounds on a regular basis, and to push/pull over 50 pounds on a regular basis. Must pass a post-offer pre-employment background check and drug test. This employer participates in the E-Verify program.
